Hubdot Business Model – A Conversation with Simona

Below is a conversation around the Hubdot KT (Kitchen Table) with Simona Barbieri, Founder and Creative Director of Hubdot.  We talk about the story of the Lumos-Hubdot connection, the Hubdot vision/brand/business model, and how to scale a company without compromising its social impact and values.

After reading the Etsy Business Model blog in June of 2013, Simona and I got in touch over Skype and began constructing the Hubdot business plan based on a vision to deliver both long-term impact and profit without compromising the soul of the business.

Hub Dot Vision

The Dots communicate an intent. They allow individuals attending a Hubdot event to share their mindset in the moment, rather than their corporate/personal labels.  Instead of saying “my name is X and I am Y” to open a conversation, you would say ‘today I’m a Yellow Dot, can you help me with my idea to …”  This is a powerful way to make unique connections (ie. Alchemy), and get over all the traditional anxieties that come at networking events.
